THE BEACH BOYS SHRINE

FOR HARD CORE FANS

THE BEACH BOYS TODAY - THE ALBUM

The Today album was released in March of 1965. The album produced a whopping 6 singles, not counting, "Help Me, Rhonda" of which the single hit version would appear on their "Summer Days (And Summer Nights)" album.
"Dance, Dance, Dance" took advantage of the public's appetite for discotheque music. It climbed all the way to #8. "Do You Wanna Dance", a remake of Bobby Freeman's hit climbed to #12. The beautiful "Please Let Me Wonder" only hit #52 while "Kiss Me Baby" did not even chart. "When I Grow Up" hit a respectable #9 while "She Knows Me Too Well" did not chart.

This album was a departure from previous albums because by this time, Brian Wilson had quit touring with the Beach Boys and was able to concentrate solely on writing and producing  music for this album. Brian used mostly  studio musicians to lay down the instrumental tracks  and then had the boys finish off the tracks with the vocals. The result was a tremendously rich album with beautiful melodies and rich instrumentation.

The following is the playlist for the Today album:

Track 1 - Do You Wanna Dance (Bobby Freeman)

Track 2 - Good To My Baby (Brian Wilson)

Track 3 - Don't Hurt My Little Sister (Brian Wilson)

Track 4 - When I Grow Up (To Be A Man) (Brian Wilson)

Track 5 - Help Me, Ronda (LP Version) (Brian Wilson)

Track 6 - Dance, Dance, Dance (B. Wilson - C. Wilson)

Track 7 - Please Let Me Wonder (B. Wilson - M. Love)

Track 8 - I'm So Young (W.H. Tyrus, Jr.)

Track 9 - Kiss Me, Baby (Brian Wilson)

Track 10 - She Knows Me Too Well (Brian Wilson)

Track 11 - In The Back Of My Mind (Brian Wilson)
