20/20 - THE ALBUM
20/20 brought the Beach Boys back into the top 100. Reaching #68, 20/20, although quite disjointed, gave us a top 20 hit entitled "Do It Again", a refreshing return to the surf sound. The fact that this cut did so well proved there was still a market for beach and surf songs even in the midst of the psychadelic era.
The album had quite a few interesting songs including one written with the help of Charles Manson although he does not officially receive credit for this song on the album itself. The song was sung by Dennis who was also credited with writing the song.
This album also comes complete with one of The Beach Boys' rockiest tunes they've ever recorded, "All I Want To Do" sung by the only true surfer, Dennis, in exactly the manner in which this song was mean't to be sung...hard and raunchy.
The album produced 6 singles, "Do It Again", "Never Learn Not To Love", "Bluebirds Over The Mountain", "I Can Hear Music" (which would later be re-recorded by Kathy Trocolli and appear on the Beach Boys' Stars and Stripes, Vol. 1 album), "All I Want To Do" and "Cotton Fields" of which only 4 charted, none of them in the top ten. "Do It Again" made it to #20. "Cotton Fields" did not chart in the U.S but did very well in the U.K. peaking at #5.
